Smoke does not pass through the breast milk to baby, but the nicotine and other chemicals in the cigarette smoke do pass to the baby through breastmilk.

Yes, smoking does harm the fetus. Women who smoke during pregnancy have a higher rate of premature birth, miscarriage and low birth weight.

No, it is never too late to stop smoking. The fetus will benefit from mom stopping smoking at any time during the pregnancy.

According to research, second hand smoke is just as harmful to the fetus as first hand smoke. The chemicals and carcinogens present in first hand smoke are still present in second hand smoke.
