Dara Torres was not able to get pregnant. As a matter of fact, she tried for several years before the word infertility was on the tip of her doctors tongue and she was an instant spokesperson for infertility.

At the age of 37, Dara Torres was on the top of her game. She was an Olympic swimmer, she loved life and she was surrounded with a family that made babies with the best of them. Nearly every person in her family was the parent of children and she was one of 6 children. Having so many family members, including 18 nieces and nephews, made Dara Torres want to get pregnant more than anyone else on earth, but that was harder than winning a gold medal it seems.

Dara Torres was not able to get pregnant. As a matter of fact, she tried for several years before the word infertility was on the tip of her doctors tongue and she was an instant spokesperson for infertility. That infertility did not last and finally at the age of 39 she was pregnant with her daughter and loving life once again, despite the fact that she was forced to stay out of the water – for a whole three months – that is.

The tale of Dara Torres does not start out with baby talk, however. At the age of 16, she was a winner in the Olympic games in competitive swimming. Dara Torres retired twice and came back each time to win more gold medals in the Olympics. After the birth of her daughter, life as a mother was not enough and with no additional pregnancies on the horizon, there was no place to go but the gym. Dara Torres trained and trained some more and came back at the age of 41 to compete again in the Olympics. This time, she was fighting girls that were ½ her age and she was not taking a beating in the water.

The Effect of Pregnancy on the Dara Torres Body
There was little or no effect on the Dara Torres body from the pregnancy. During her 9 months with child, Dara Torres did not stop swimming. She entered a Masters League and she would swim nearly every day. Just three weeks after giving birth to her daughter, the baby weight was gone and Dara Torres was lifting weights and swimming in a Masters tournament. In order to prepare for the Olympics she just kicked up the training regime and worked out being a mom and being a Olympian at the same time.

Dara Torres does not talk about being a mom anymore or about additional pregnancies. She is happy with the daughter she has the career she finally retired from. She does offer that if she were to become pregnant again, that simple means she is full of enough love to care for two children. She does like being a mom, but the feeling is there that no more pregnancies will be in the future for Dara Torres. Not only is she not getting any younger, but life as a busy swimmer with training, keeping fit and taking care of a daughter is more than enough for this gold medalist.
