Pregnancy and Halloween: Fun Costume Ideas

Being pregnant during Halloween can be a lot of fun. There are so many costumes available for today’s mother-to-be that were not available just a few years ago. Yesterday’s maternity costumes were like oversized trash bags that hid your precious baby bump. Today’s maternity costumes highlight your growing belly.

Want to try something different with your baby bump?

You can be an angel, devil, pirate, nurse, fairy ragdoll…the list goes on and on. You just have to know where to look and often you have to order the costume online. However, there is a fun option that only women with baby bumps have - paint your bump! Yep, paint your belly. Beach ball, baseball, golf ball, basketball, soccer ball, pumpkin, eight balls, the list goes on. If it is round, your belly can become it. There was even a suggestion to simply paint a road sign that says ‘Bump.’ Talk about literal. How about putting a peanut on your tummy, or painting on the ‘Kool-Aid’ man? Just remember, when painting your belly to use non-toxic paints.

Want to hide your bump?

If you are not ready to show off your baby bump, there are plenty of options as well. You could be a nun, a Peep, a Lego, a full-on ‘Kool-Aid’ man, a goddess, a flapper girl, a witch, or a bunch of grapes. Anything loose and flowing or big and boxy will camouflage your growing belly.

Regardless of whether you want to highlight your baby bump, small or large, or if you want to hide it, dress-up options for Halloween are endless. If you don't like traditional costumes from the stores, do a little research online. There are plenty of ideas for costumes you can make with items you already have at home. It all depends on your level of creativity, your desired result, and possibly, your sense of humor.
