Dr Amos - I am 41. I will be 42 in January. I had my fsh done in January this year and it was 6.7. I have had several other tests for pcos etc. and everything came back normal. My dh has had his sperm count done and it came back at 25 million which I think you said was a bit on the low side but I did manage to get pregnant this summer despite this (I m/c at 10 wks, 3 days). My question is does my low level fsh show that I have a good chance of getting pregnant despite my age? Is it an indication of the quality of my eggs? If we were to go down the IVF route would I be a good candidate? And do you think I should repeat the fsh test as it is some months since I had it done? My ob says there is no need to repeat it as it won't have changed much.
Many thanks
Jenny
The LH is not significant on CD 3.
Dr Amos - thank you for your reply. Both tests were done on cd3. What would the LH show? Is it significant?
The FSH is one on CD 3 to check for the quality of your eggs. Most doctors want to see an FSH below 10, so yours was perfect and shows that you have good "egg quality". Also, many doctors like to repeat the FSH as a woman gets older, just to make sure it continues to be low. If the reason for your problems getting pregnant would be his low sperm count then doing IVF and ICSI will significantly improve your chances getting pregnant.
Another test I had was LH which came in at 4.2. I'm afraid I don't have any other figures for you.
Thank you
Jenny
