The definition of the term children is important when answering this question. If your children are older and can take care of themselves (teens and older) the hospital may allow children to stay overnight in place of your partner (assume that you will need to stay overnight and that the hospital allows overnight guests). Many vaginal deliveries are discharged within six to eight hours of birth, depending on your current health condition, the condition of baby, insurance coverage, hospital policy and time of birth.
If you have younger children they will not be allowed to stay overnight in the hospital. You'll need to prepare outside care for younger children for the time you spend in the hospital.
