There are several tests done at the first visit in pregnancy with your doctor.

- History Taking
- Physical Examination
- Confirmation of the pregnancy viability
- Confirmation of due date
- Routine blood and other tests
Blood tests:
- blood count
- blood type, Rh
- antibodies
- hepatitis B antigen
- syphilis screen
- HIV
- rubella (German measles)
- chickenpox antibody
- toxoplasma antibody
- parvovirus antibody
- cystic fibrosis (CF)
- genetic screening (if indicated: eg Ashkenazi Jewish panel, Sickle cell screen, thalessemia screen)

Urine tests:
- sugar
- proteine
- screen for infection
Vaginal tests:
- Papanicolaou smear;
- Cervical tests for chlamydia and gonorrhea.
