First Visit Testing

• History Taking
• Physical Examination
• Confirmation of the pregnancy viability
• Confirmation of due date
• Routine blood and other tests

Blood tests:

• blood count
• blood type, Rh
• antibodies
• hepatitis B antigen
• syphilis screen
• HIV
• rubella (German measles)
• chickenpox  antibody
• toxoplasma antibody
• parvovirus antibody
• cystic fibrosis (CF)
• genetic screening (if indicated: eg Ashkenazi Jewish panel, Sickle cell screen, thalessemia screen)

Urine tests:

• sugar
• proteine
• screen for infection

Vaginal tests:

• Papanicolaou smear;
• Cervical tests  for chlamydia and gonorrhea.
