How is your menstural health? Find out in just 2 minutes.

Regular menstrual cycles and periods are important indicators of your fertility and ability to get pregnant. So the more you know, the better!

What is good menstrual health?

Menstruation, also known as your "period", is the process in which the uterus sheds blood and tissue through the vagina. This is a natural and healthy process for girls and women of reproductive age. Menstruation typically lasts 2 to 5 days, but this varies by individual. The menstrual cycle, the time from one to the next period, depends on when and if ovulation happens and normally lasts between 24 and 32 days. Your menstrual cycle can say a lot about your overall health.

Having regular menstrual cycles usually means that you ovulate regularly. With irregular menstrual cycles, there is a good chance something is wrong with your ovulation. If your cycles are irregular, it's possible that you ovulate irregularly or that you do not ovulate at all. This is not unusual, as about one in three couples who have difficulty getting pregnant have a problem with ovulation.

How your periods can signal a problem

Having regular menstrual cycles usually indicates that you ovulate normally, while irregular cycles usually mean that you have problems with ovulation and fertility. In addition, symptoms associated with your menstrual cycle and period such as vaginal discharge, cramps, and mood swings can be an indication of certain issues that need to be addressed if you want to improve your chances of getting pregnant.

Here are more things to know:

  • If your periods are very heavy, or if you don’t menstruate at all, this could indicate a problem with ovulation, which may mean a fertility problem.
  • Do you have cramps when during your period? Cramps may indicate an issue that needs to be addressed, and this questionnaire will help you determine if your cramping is normal.
  • How often do you change your tampon or pad during your period? If you find that you have to change it very often, this may indicate that your periods are heavier than normal, and you should see your doctor.
  • The standard cycle length is 28 days from the beginning of your period (first bleeding) to the beginning of the next period. However, there is a wide range of variation, and even if your period is much longer or shorter than this, it’s probably still within a “normal” range. Find out if your cycle length is normal or if you need to get checked out.

Learn more about your periods, whether they are normal (and what to do about periods and cycles that are not!), and if they are affecting your ability to get pregnant with this questionnaire developed by babyMed founder, Dr. Amos Grunebaum

About this questionnaire

These questions ask for details about your period. Periods can be different from month to month. For this questionnaire, period refers to any bleeding that you have from your vagina, even if it is irregular. Try to focus on questions and answers only as they relate to your period. After you have finished the questionnaire, we'll give you individualized answers to your responses.
