alpha-fetoprotein (AFP)

Maternal Serum Screening

During a maternal serum screening the mother's blood is checked for a combination of different markers: alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), unconjugated estriol (uE3), and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) make up the standard tests, known together as the "triple test."

Multiple marker - Triple or Quadruple screen

The multiple marker test (sometimes referred to as the triple screen) can tell you if your baby is at an increased risk of having certain birth defects and genetic abnormalities.
