Premature Ovarian Failure (POF)

OPK stands for Ovulation Predictor Kit. The OPK is a test that checks your urine for the presence of LH, luteinizing hormone. 

If you have amenorrhea and you don't have a period and are not pregnant, then certain tests can be done to find out why you are not getting your period.

There are three phases in your menstrual cycle – follicular phase,
ovulatory phase and luteal phase. In terms of LH surge, the ovulatory
phase is most important.

Hairdressers may be at increased risk for premature ovarian failure POF compared with women employed in other occupations.

Once a woman with ovarian hypo function becomes pregnant, there are no
contraindication between the condition and the pregnancy. The baby will
be carried in the same way as a mother without the ovarian abnormality.

Is it possible that my Ovulation Preditor Kit (OPK) was positive without ovulation?

Premature Ovarian Failure (POF) is a loss of ovarian function in younger women. POF is associated with amenorrhea (no menstrual period), estrogen is low, and the follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) level is elevated.

Provera is often given as the 'Progesterone (Provera) Challenge Test' to women who have no period and who are not pregnant.
