Q: What are DHEAS?

A: Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA or DHEAS) is an androgen — a male hormone, and it is produced primarily by the adrenal gland. A high level suggests too much adrenal androgen (male hormone) output. Usually, a level above 2 micrograms per milliliter is considered elevated.
