Q: Is it safe to receive allergy shots when trying to conceive (TTC) and during pregnancy?

A: Allergy shots contain small doses of allergens which are used to desensitize individuals. Most of these allergens are environmental and it can be assumed that all pregnant women are exposed more or less to many such allergens. There is no specific allergen which has been shown to be a cause of abnormal pregnancy in humans and published studies demonstrate no increase in incidence of birth defects in women receiving allergy shots.
