Is it a problem if I take certain medications while breastfeeding?
The following medications should not be taken while breastfeeding:
- Anti-cancer medications (antineoplastics)
- Drugs of abuse (e.g. alcohol, cocaine, heroine)
- Certain anti-seizure medications (e.g. Phenobarbital, ethosuximide, and primidone )
- Ergot alkaloids
- Radiopharmaceuticals
If you have a question, you should contact your doctor and ask whether the medication you are taking is safe while breastfeeding.
