Q: What is the coverline in basal body temperature (BBT) charting?

A: The coverline is a horizontal line drawn in your basal body temperature BBT chart after ovulation has been established. It is drawn just above the last temperature prior to the first rise in temperature.

Determining your “coverline” is an important first step in temperature charting. The coverline is a useful tool to help track temperature, but carries no physiological meaning and is just  a visual tool to help you see your ovulation pattern. Observe the “big picture” and look for trends rather than individual temperatures.
