Researchers at the University of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Universite Laval in Quebec recently polled more than 450 obstetricians on the type of uterine closure they favor after C-section delivery. Of the 450 obstetricians polled, only 176 chose to respond to the survey. The average age of the respondents (or average years in obstetrics) was younger/less than the targeted population, but researchers were able to conclude a single favorable method of uterine closure.

Based on obstetricians surveyed, the most often used method of uterine closer was double-layer with 89% of obstetricians choosing this method. The majority of obstetricians chose to lock the first layer, 61%. The remaining 28% of obstetricians left the first layer unlocked during closure. Other methods of uterine closure included single-layer lock and single-layer unlocked. When a repeat C-section was being performed the first layer was locked more often than unlocked.
