You can continue to breastfeed while you are pregnant, but you may notice changes in breast milk production and supply. Increased progesterone overpowers prolactin (the hormone which stimulates breast milk production), leaving less prolactin in the blood stream. There is also a move from breast milk to colostrum as you enter the latter months of pregnancy. Colostrum is thicker than breast milk and is produced in smaller volume.
