Getting Pregnant, pregnancy, Baby, delivery, timing intercourse

Timing your pregnancy in order to have a baby in a specific month is possible but it takes a lot of preparation. If you want to have a baby in a certain month, you need to conceive about nine months earlier. However, there are many conditions that have to be just right in order for you to get pregnant. If you want to make sure your due date is in a specific month you will need to do everything in your power to make sure all of those conditions have been met during the month you attempt to conceive.

Ovulation Prediction

First of all, in order to schedule your due date, you will need to know when you are going to ovulate. To do this you must begin preparing a few months in advance. There are two easy ways to chart and monitor your ovulation cycle: by keeping track of your basal body temperature and by using ovulation kits

Basal Body Temperature

A few months before you want to conceive start charting your temperature. Every morning before you get out of bed or do any type of physical activity take your temperature and write it down. Typically your temperature will rise between .4 and .6 degrees during ovulation. By keeping track of your temperature for several months you will be able to predict ovulation in order to determine the optimal time for you and your partner to have intercourse.

Ovulation Kits

Ovulation kits allow you to check your luteinizing hormone levels from home. This hormone is always found in the urine in the twenty-four to forty-eight hours prior to ovulation. By tracking the days this hormone is present you will be able to more accurately predict the day you will ovulate which will increase your chances of conceiving in the desired month.

When To Have Sex

After you have determined when you are most likely to ovulate you need to begin focusing on the optimal time to have sex. Once you ovulate you are only able to conceive for about twenty-four hours. This means that good timing is imperative. The good news is that sperm lives for three to five days. With your charts in hand, you can begin having sex regularly five to six days prior to the expected date of ovulation and continue daily until the day after you ovulate. This will increase your chances of conceiving in the desired month.

Tips

There are a few other, less technical, things you can do to increase your chances of conceiving.

  • Start taking a vitamin supplement including folic acid to improve fertility and pregnancy outcome
  • Prior to the month you want to conceive try to reach your optimal weight
  • Begin moderate exercise
  • Start eating a healthy diet
  • Stop smoking
  • Stop drinking alcohol
  • Stop taking recreational drugs
  • Avoid products that may make it more difficult for sperm to travel and survive
