kristin-davis.jpgKristin Davis, beloved for her role as Charlotte York through six seasons and two feature films of Sex and the City, has adopted a baby girl! The star’s rep recently confirmed the domestic adoption, which took place this summer. The child’s name is Gemma Rose. The actress, 46, is reportedly ecstatic at her new addition. “This is something I have wanted for a very long time,” she said. “Having this wish come true is even more gratifying than I ever imagined. I feel so blessed.”

While Davis has chosen to be a single mother, it is clear she gave the tough decision a lot of thought. Back in May 2010 she spoke to Access Hollywood about having a child through adoption, stating: “You have to obviously think it through. Best-case scenario you’re obviously raising it with a father. It does give me pause to think about doing it alone. I feel like it’s a really hard job.”

But considering the plethora of other celebrity moms, including her old gal pals Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie Bradshaw) and Cynthia Nixon (Miranda Hobbes), surely Kristin will have many offers of a helping hand. Sarah Jessica Parker was recently quoted expressing her happiness and well wishes for her friend: “I just could not be happier for Kristin. It’s a wonderful situation. I know she’s wanted to have a family for a long time and she deserves that unique kind of happiness that children bring…”

There are also a number of celebrities who have firsthand experience with adoption. This list’s most recent additions include Mariska Hargitay of Law and Order, Oscar winner Sandra Bullock, and Denise Richards.

We’ll never forget watching Davis’ on screen character Charlotte go through the adoption process in the sixth season of the hit show, yet another case of life imitating art. Though Charlotte and hubby Harry initially tried for a domestic adoption, they encounter some bumps in the road after the birth parents-to-be change their minds about the adoption. But in the series finale Charlotte York finally gets her wish when she receives a letter from China with a photo of her new daughter. “That’s our baby,” she tells Harry with tear-filled eyes. “I know it. That’s really our baby.” No doubt Kristin felt the exactly same the first time she laid eyes on Gemma Rose.

Congratulations Kristin!
